Police happy 'aggressive bully' who held knife to man's throat and throttled ex is jailed

As reported, Tobias Maylott, 28, was jailed at Portsmouth Crown Court on Friday for five and a half years for an attempted robbery that was a case of mistaken identity and for a menacing attack om his former partner that led to him being tasered by police.

The court heard that Maylott, who was with a knife-wielding accomplice, had targeted the wrong person at an address in Sedgley Close, Southsea, on July 24. He threw an innocent man onto a car bonnet as he was cleaning the vehicle before demanding drugs and cash while holding a machete to the victim’s throat. Maylott, of Wynton Way, Fareham, then grabbed his ex-partner’s throat a week later.

Following the sentence, police staff investigator Sarah Hills said: ‘This was a shocking display of violence by an aggressive bully. We take a zero tolerance approach to all violence, especially offences that occur in a domestic setting, and we work hard as a police service to target those who carry weapons.

‘Maylott clearly poses a danger to the public and I hope the communities of Portsmouth and Fareham can be reassured he is now in prison.’

Judge Richard Shepherd said ‘vicious’ Maylott committed the offences during a ‘spiral’ where ‘everything was going wrong’ amid heavy drug use and had underlying mental health difficulties. Maylott, who admitted attempted robbery, possession of a weapon, common assault, criminal damage and a public order offence, was jailed for five and a half years. A restraining order of five years was also imposed.
