Takeaway bar on Southsea's South Parade Pier to become permanent fixture

It comes after the team behind the Gaiety Bar on South Parade Pier, in Southsea, applied for permission to set up a new business.
Dubbed Beach Bar, the bar operated on a trial basis under a temporary licence for 12 days in August.

Hide AdNow it will become a permanent fixture after a licensing committee approved the plan today.
The Beach Bar will be open on the left-hand side of the pier from 8am to 11pm seven days a week, serving alcohol from 10am to 11pm.
With five other venues across the pier licensed to serve alcohol, Beach Bar with join both the Gaiety Bar and Deep Blue in having permission for off-sales - meaning alcohol can be served to be taken off-site.
With plans for a Turkish bar to be decided by the council’s planning committee next month, some residents are concerned about the number of licensed venues in the area, according to Councillor Linda Symes.

Hide AdCllr Symes, who represents the Eastney & Craneswater ward, said: ‘The concern of residents in the area is understandable as the residential properties there are in the closest proximity to the seafront.
‘Obviously a balance must be achieved to allow the residents and the pier to live in harmony.’
Portsmouth City Council’s planning committee will meet virtually at 2pm on September 9.
