School dinner cost rise criticism

A UKIP councillor has spoken out over the rise in school dinner costs.

Cllr Chris Wood, who represents Crofton on Hampshire County Council, said: ‘Over the course of the next five years parents with two children will be forced to pay an additional £117 a year to provide their children with a healthy hot meal.

‘This government’s policies are hitting the pockets of hardworking families.’

The meals will rise to £2.10 in April – a 10p increase. There will be a further 10p rise in two years’ time and another 10p increase two years after that, making a 30p rise over five years.
